An excellent example of how the Web has allowed groups of like minded people to come together for the greater good. At the centre of the SBMCC is their excellent web site , but the club is much more than a web site it is about real people building real vans with skill and enthusiasm. They have meets and raids and their newsletter “Our Way” really is top notch. The web site has past issues available for anyone to download .
The aim of the ‘club’ is to promote and assist those who undertake to create a Self Build Motor Caravan, to make this club informative, helpful and practical during the build, as well as a great place to meet other like – minded people.
One of the most active and useful areas of the site is their very useful forum. Can visit as a guest and view posts, but have to register to join in the discussion and ask questions. This is free and all you need is an email address to validate your registration. You are then allowed 10 free posts. After that you will need to join the club to continue.
The most active and probably most helpful section is entitled:
A Problem Shared Is A Problem Solved. The people who lurk and post here are very knowledgeable. If you have a problem or want advice on the choice of a component for your build this is the place to come.
Anyone can access a well organised archive of posts on a wide range of topics including things like; electrics, plumbing, adhesives and paints through to legal issues.
Membership is just £15 per person per year. Visit here: The Self Build Motor Caravanners Club
Caravanwise can provide a competitive camper van insurance quote. This can cover you for up to 90 days during completion and then will cover your motorhome once it is finished and it has been reclassified as a “Motor Caravan”.
